Anachronisme
En 1865, Thomas Gates déchiffre le cryptogramme playfair: "LABOULAYE LADY WILL LEAD TO CIBOLA TEMPLES OF GOLD". Benjamin Gates nous apprend par la suite que la statue de la liberté de Laboulaye située à Paris mène aux cités d'or de Cibola. Or cette statue n'existait pas encore en 1865, elle a été créée en 1889, soit 24 ans après.

Le tableau du cryptogramme playfair est rempli avec le mot clé: "bacon". Sur le plan suivant, les lettres dans le tableau ont été changées. L'erreur est que le mot clé n'est plus "bacon" mais "baton" d'où la modification des lettres dans le tableau.

Le tableau du cryptogramme n'est pas le bon, dans le modèle anglais, on enlève la lettre J et on garde la lettre X d'où: DEATH BCFGI KLMNO PQRSU VWXYZ Le déchiffrage "ME IK QO __ CQ TE" (et non "QF JU WJ __ AK EH") correspond bien à "LA BO UL __ EL AD".
